NY Professor Says White Families Support White Supremacy

“What I’ve learned is that the white-nuclear family is one of the most powerful forces supporting white supremacy.”

So began a twisted piece of race-baiting garbage by a sociology professor working at the City University of New York this weekend. Jessie Daniels, who, according to Campus Reform, describes herself as an “expert on race,” went on a tweetstorm that has attracted more than a little bit of internet backlash. In it, she declared that white families, by virtue of their very existence, were holding up the white supremacist hegemony in the U.S.

“I mean, if you’re a white person who says they’re engaged in dismantling white supremacy but you’re forming a white family and reproducing white children that ‘you want the best for’ – how is that helping and not part of the problem?” she asked.

Perhaps it would be best for whites to go out of their way to form a multi-racial family, then? Would that help ease one’s guilt about keeping white supremacy alive?

Alas, Daniels shuts the door on that idea. “If you’re white and forming a family with multiracial children and not dealing with your own racism or systemic white supremacy, how’s that helping?”

Daniels, indeed, wants us to know that the family structure itself is part of the problem. “There used to be a Marxist-feminist critique of The Family as an inherently conservative force in society,” she writes, “but that seems to have fallen out of favor. (I blame marriage equality fight). But it’s an important critique for talking about white supremacy.”

Daniels also assures white readers that their work will not be finished simply by deconstructing their own personal racism. No, no. They must then tackle the inequality they are perpetuating by…passing wealth down to their children.

“White people, do you own your home? When you die, where’s wealth in that house going?” she asks. “If it’s to your children, you’re reproducing inequality.”

And…

“Same with education inequality,” she says. “Schools in U.S. are funded through property taxes, which ensures racial segregation continues.”

She then put an end to her Twitter rant with the hashtag #IShouldBeWriting.

No, Jessie. You really shouldn’t.
