Obamacare and The Beginning of the End

According to a recent report by The Oregonian, Multnomah County will be looking to Obamacare to cover medical treatment for their jail inmates. Not only does it make little sense to force Oregon insurance companies to pay for the treatment of criminals, but this news provides a striking microcosm of everything that’s wrong with the Affordable Healthcare Act. Are you interested in having your tax dollars pay for the treatment of Oregon inmates?

It’s easy to get cynical about these things, even when we look back at Clinton, Carter, Roe v Wade, and other national disasters. Because while liberal Presidents come and go, we’re seeing some things in Barack Obama’s crowning achievement that could spell real trouble for these amber waves of grain. The proof? Even diehard left-wingers are starting to admit that there are cracks in the foundation.

On January 13th, the Wall Street Journal blew the doors off the Obama administration’s goal of getting seven million Americans enrolled under the Affordable Care Act. According to their report, only around half of those who had enrolled in plans in 17 key states had paid their first month of premiums. This is probably not a statistic the President wanted to make public, because it makes a mockery of their claims to success. If a person enrolls but doesn’t pay, that person is not covered by health insurance. Combine that with the more than 4 million Americans who were dropped from their previous plans due to changes in the law, and you have a recipe for disaster.

This is where the liberal accusations really start to glow under the light of their own ridiculousness. Republicans want to see poor people go without medicine. Conservatives don’t care about anyone but themselves. Right-wingers whistle past the graveyard of their fellow Americans. Do we have to look at some more numbers to see how foolish these accusations are? Why not.

According to the latest projections, the number of people who have signed up for health insurance under Obamacare, paid their premiums, and are now covered may be as low as 700,000. Now, it’s a great thing that these 700,000 people have insurance, but what is the cost? We’re sitting in an economy where 92 million Americans are out of work! As predicted by economists in late 2013, we’re already starting to see national companies shy away from providing full-time employment. A memo from Staples leaked last week, confirming that the office supply giant is limiting part-time employees to only 25 hours of work per week. Don’t think for a minute that more corporations won’t follow suit. And when everyone is working 25 hours a week, paying a harsh penalty for their lack of insurance coverage at tax time, and can’t support their families, who are the liberals going to blame?

Obamacare and the policies of his administration spell doom for this once (and still) great country. Are we past the point of no return? I don’t believe so. But make no mistake about it, we get closer to that point with every passing day. In the meantime, take comfort in knowing the burglars, arsonists, and ne’er-do-wells of Multnomah County are well taken care of, even if it means you have to pay more for your health insurance.
