(FixThisNation.com) – On Friday, Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez commented that Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis “should read a Bible” following his recent defense of Daniel Penny, 24, a Marine veteran who is currently facing manslaughter charges after the death of Jordan Neely by chokehold on May 1, at a New York Subway.

Neely, 30, was a homeless street performer who according to reports had boarded the F train and was acting hostile towards others on the train. Penny along with others ended up having to restrain them to stop his aggressive behavior. Penny specifically put Neely in a chokehold for several meetings, which led to Neely’s death. Following his death there had been multiple protests throughout the city.

The Times reported that Penny was charged with manslaughter and has managed to raise more than $2.6 million that can be used towards his legal defense.

The police along with the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg launched an investigation into the incident. As part of the investigation, the N.Y.P.D. ended up interviewing multiple witnesses and started searching for more witnesses that can help them get a better picture of what occurred.

DeSantis, according to the New York Post, called Penny a “Good Samaritan” whose actions helped protect everyone else on the train. According to other reports DeSantis also claimed that Penny had done the right thing.

Following this statement, Ocasio-Cortez who had previously taken to Twitter to call Neely’s death “a public murder” stated that DeSantis needed to read the bible in order to understand the story of the Good Samaritan.
