Patriots Donate Record-Breaking Amount to Christian Bakers
Americans who still believe in religious freedom were aghast when Oregon Christians Aaron and Melissa Klein were found guilty of discrimination. The owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa were ordered by the Oregon labor commission to pay a lesbian couple $135,000 this year for refusing to cater their gay wedding. The controversial case has inspired a legion of conservatives to pony up the moolah that will keep the Kleins from losing everything they have.
The road to financial redemption was not a smooth one. The Kleins originally set up a fundraising page on GoFundMe. That campaign was removed by the site after the crowdfunding organization determined that “claims of heinous crimes, violent, hateful, sexual or discriminatory acts” were not welcome.
That led the Kleins to move their campaign over to Continue to Give, where conservatives have done just what it says on the marquee. In two months, the couple has raised $352,000, smashing the previous fundraising records for the site. It goes to show that when Christians and defenders of religious freedom feel they are under attack, they respond with the currency that speaks louder than any other.
Naturally, liberals are incensed to see the Kleins rewarded for their “bigotry.” They have pressured Continue to Give to remove the page, something the site’s founder says is not in the cards. Jesse Wellhoefer said, “Lots of people have been asking us to take it off. Our response has been, ‘Thank you for your concern, have a great day and God bless you.’”
Money Talks
Anyone paying attention for the last decade can see that conservatism is not well represented in our elections. And even when it is, liberals have found ways to undermine the vote. Voters go astray and accidentally vote for religious freedom? Well, we’ll just see what big business has to say about that. Voters lose their minds and vote against same-sex marriage? That’s no problem, we’ll just hand this off to the Supreme Court.
In an environment where liberals are determined to thwart the will of the American people, these fundraising campaigns show the way forward. They demonstrate that not everyone is just going to give up and go along with their political masters just because the media tells them to. The people that donated their hard-earned money to the Kleins realize that Liking things on Facebook and marching around with signs is not going to change anything. Money, though…that’s a different story.
