Fresh off the mainstream media telling us for weeks that Kim Jong Un made a fool of Donald Trump in Singapore and that the North Korean regime actually has no intention of giving up its nuclear weapons program or ballistic missiles, a new set of satellite photos shows that they are doing just that. Published by the North Korean watchdog group 38 North, the photos appear to show the reclusive nation taking significant steps to dismantle the satellite launch station in Sohae. This was one of the concessions Kim reportedly agreed to in Singapore during the historic summit.
Appearances can be deceiving, and we don’t have independent confirmation from inspectors, but it seems that, once again, Trump was right and his detractors were dead wrong.
“In an important first step towards fulfilling a commitment made by Kim Jong Un at the June 12 Singapore Summit, new commercial satellite imagery of the Sohae Satellite Launching Station (North Korea’s main satellite launch facility since 2012) indicates that the North has begun dismantling key facilities,” wrote Joseph Bermudez of 38 North. “Since these facilities are believed to have played an important role in the development of technologies for the North’s intercontinental ballistic missile program, these efforts represent a significant confidence building measure on the part of North Korea.”
North Korea has been relying on the Sohae site as their primary launch pad for satellites since 2012, and it is believed that they are also using the location to develop engines that play a significant role in their ballistic missile program. In Singapore, President Trump said the North Korean dictator had promised to dismantle a missile site, and U.S. officials later told the press that Sohae was the site in question. No progress had been seen on that front until now, however, which gave the president’s critics the ammunition they needed to claim that Trump had been played.
Trump, however, has remained confident that talks were progressing and that his summit in Singapore was a success. This week, even before the publication of 38 North’s photos, he tweeted, “A Rocket has not been launched by North Korea in 9 months. Likewise, no Nuclear Tests. Japan is happy, all of Asia is happy. But the Fake News is saying, without ever asking me (always anonymous sources), that I am angry because it is not going fast enough. Wrong, very happy!”
That tweet followed a Washington Post story that claimed the president was growing frustrated with the slow pace of the negotiations process and North Korea’s apparent refusal to meet with American diplomats in a scheduled visit. We’re sure President Trump is indeed unhappy with the bizarre negotiating style of Kim Jong Un’s regime – a regime that has been playing games with the West for so long it may not understand how to pivot to serious negotiations – but the WaPo story was another transparent attempt to make Trump look like a naïve fool who jumped into the deep end without checking the water.
The press cannot stand the idea that Trump might have actually put us on the road to historic peace with his courageous summit. They know that there’s not a special counsel in the world that can take that achievement away from him, and they will be forced to eat so many of the words they’ve said about this president over the last year and a half. Not that they will, of course. Like they did with the administration’s extraordinary response to the hurricane in Texas last year, they’ll simply find a way to credit everyone BUT Trump for the success. Hell, we wouldn’t be surprised to read a New York Times editorial crediting Obama for Korean denuclearization. These bastards will go to any lengths necessary to denigrate our great president, even if it means outright lying to the American people.
