ZERO Dollars: Planned Parenthood in Hysterics Over Trump’s New Budget

President Trump released his official budget proposal last week, and – if enacted by Congress – it would completely defund Planned Parenthood. According to a fact sheet provided by the Office of Management and Budget, the proposal would fulfill Trump’s campaign vow to prevent federal monies from going to the nation’s largest abortionist.

“The budget follows through on a campaign promise and prohibits any funding in the Labor-HHS appropriations bill for certain entities that provide abortions, including Planned Parenthood,” said the fact sheet. “This prohibition applies to all funds in the bill, including Medicaid.”

Between Medicaid and Title X discretionary funding, Planned Parenthood gets somewhere in the neighborhood of $465 million a year in taxpayer money. This, despite the fact that the Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funds from going to support abortion; Planned Parenthood performs more than 300,000 abortions a year.

Of course, the organization’s big lie is that no federal money goes toward the abortion side of their business, which is one of the most fundamentally stupid things that Democrats have ever tried to sell to their voters.

In a briefing Monday, OMB Director Mick Mulvaney was asked if the budget would strip Planned Parenthood of its federal funding. “Yes,” he replied.

However, he said it was contingent on whether or not the Senate could pass the House version of Republican healthcare reform.

“It assumes the American Health Care Act passes and the AHCA in its current form, which is the one we assumed — and that’s making a bunch of assumptions, here — that it assumes that passes and that defunds Planned Parenthood,” said Mulvaney.

Naturally, the abortionists are fit to be tied. In a blog post, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund warned readers that Trump’s budget would take a thick slice of taxpayer money away from them.

“In an unprecedented move, Trump’s budget singles out women who access Planned Parenthood for basic, preventive health care,” said the blog. “For the first time in history, the president’s budget prohibits Planned Parenthood from participating in ANY program funded through Congress’s annual Labor-HHS bill.”

Well, President Trump offered them a lifeline. He said earlier this year that he would be happy to extend Planned Parenthood’s funding…if they agreed to stop performing abortions. In other words, put your money where your mouth is. If abortions make up such an insignificant slice of your business model that it’s hardly worth mentioning, why not give it up?

Well, they didn’t. And now this is the result. They are essentially telling the world: We care more about performing abortions than we do about all of this “basic, preventative health care” stuff we always squawk about.

Which, frankly, we already knew.
