(FixThisNation.com) – Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, blasted Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday stating that he needed to be fired over the border crisis and the increased flow of fentanyl into the country.

During a Senate Judiciary hearing, Cornyn pointed out that his constituents were wondering about who was accountable for the situation and who got first because of everything that had occurred. He then proceeded to tell Mayorkas that “You should be fired.” He added that the only reason Mayorkas has not been fired is that he had been “carrying out the policies of the Biden administration” which have resulted in “nothing but death and destruction.”

The remarks came during Cornyn’s questioning of Mayorkas about the increase in fentanyl in the U.S. as well as the crisis at the southern border. In FY 2022 there were more than 2.4 million migrant encounters along the southern border. Yearly more than 70,000 Americans lose their lives because of fentanyl, which is primarily produced in Mexico and then transported to the U.S.

However, both Mayorkas and the Democrats have pointed out that around 90 percent of fentanyl seizures actually take place at the ports of entry, and those who are arrested are usually U.S. citizens. The Republicans on the other hand have spoken about the large number of gotaways and that because of them it would be impossible to be able to tell exactly how much fentanyl had been transported into the country.
