Saudi Envoy: No One is “Naïve Enough” to Get Back Into Iran Nuclear Deal

In an interview with Fox News this weekend, Saudi Arabia’s UN envoy made the striking prediction that no one – not even Joe Biden – would be “naïve enough” to get back into the Iran nuclear deal after everything the Islamic regime has done over the last four years. This prediction, which we suspect may be premature at best, comes as Democrats like Ilhan Omar have been demanding that Biden reverse nearly every Middle Eastern policy and/or agreement put into place by the Trump administration.

In the interview, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi said he would be shocked if the Biden team tried to restore the Obama-era agreement, fraught with problems and loopholes as it was.

“No, I think that the Iran nuclear deal has proven its failure to the entire world. And I don’t think that anybody is going to be naive enough to go back to the same deal,” he said.

At the same time, Al-Mouallimi said that if Biden and Middle Eastern nations could come up with a brand new deal that was tighter and more logical than the first, he would be on board.

“If there is a new deal in which Saudi Arabia is involved in the discussion and which covers the shortcomings of the previous deal, such as Iran’s hydromantic behavior in the region and the issue of the missiles and the supply of weapons to rebel groups and so forth, then we will be all for it,” he said.

Somehow, considering that Biden was an integral part of the administration that signed off on that horrible deal in the first place, we have our doubts that he is the man who can negotiate a better one. Those chances are even slimmer when you consider Iran’s hostile actions over the last few years, all of which have shown that the regime has little interest in forging a new, diplomatic path towards normalized relations anytime soon. And they are made slimmer still by the likelihood that Biden is going to go in there, monkey around, and reduce the sanctions against Iran.

And, of course, there are Biden’s own words. In an op-ed, the former vice president said that he has a two-part plan of fixing things with Iran.

“First, I will make an unshakeable commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,” Biden said. “Second, I will offer Tehran a credible path back to diplomacy.”

Hey, maybe he can even ship another pallet or two of cash to the mullahs in the middle of the night!
