Scott Adams Praises Trump’s “Perfect” Reaction to Biden/Reade Situation
Dilbert creator Scott Adams was one of the few prominent commentators to see genius in Donald Trump’s political rise, and he was one of the only pundits to correctly predict that he would win the Republican nomination and then the presidency itself. But even all these years later, Adams still finds new things to marvel at when it comes to Trump’s unerring mastery of the media and voter psychology. This week, Adams said he was amazed at how brilliantly Trump was handling the sexual assault allegations hanging over Joe Biden.
On Friday, Trump spoke with podcaster Dan Bongino about the allegations. Rather than doing the predictable and using Reade’s accusation against his political opponent, Trump expressed a certain amount of empathy for the former vice president, insisting that it was too early to know whether or not his accuser was telling the truth.
“I would just say to Joe Biden, ‘Just go out and fight it,’” Trump said. “He’s going to have to make his own decision, I’m not going to be telling him what to do. Biden is going to have to go out and fight his own battles.”
Trump said that he could readily understand the position Biden is in.
“I’ve been falsely accused by people that I’ve never even seen, I’ve never even seen many of these people. And some of these people, I met them – zero interest, Okay? Like zero,” the president said. “And all of a sudden you become a wealthy guy, you’re a famous guy, then you become president, and people just – people that you’ve never seen, that you’ve never heard of make charges. So I guess in a way you could say I’m, I’m sticking up for him.”
Adams said there was no more perfect way for Trump to talk about the situation.
“If that’s not the funniest thing you’ve heard in your whole life,” Adams said. “If President Trump had said yeah, ‘Joe Biden is guilty,’ that would totally open up Trump for the same accusations and you know that would be just automatic. So President Trump didn’t really have a play to talk about it at all.
“There’s nobody else in the world who would have found that path, it’s so, it’s so perfect,” he continued. “The president is embracing Biden. The president is using it as a kill-shot that his opponent is just like him. Do you understand how sublime that is? Because there’s only one person in the race who can survive being just like Trump, and it’s not Joe Biden. The more Trump says, ‘Yeah, we’re like brothers. We’re practically the same guy. I lie, he lies, I’ve got some allegations, he’s got some allegations. You know, we’re practically bros!’”
It really is a genius bit of strategy, and it’s the kind of thing that only Trump would comprehend, much less have the guts to pull off. With every day that this Reade allegation hangs over the Biden campaign, the Democrats lose a bit more of their supposed “moral high ground.” Biden was supposed the be the squeaky-clean, bland, normal candidate. The “electable guy.” That’s his whole deal; it’s the only thing he has to run on. If Trump can get people to see that he’s just as corrupt, just as smarmy, and just as fatally flawed as any other politician, all that goes out the window.
If Democrats aren’t panicking yet, they aren’t paying attention.
