The Newest Protected Identity for Dems: Convicted Felons

As the Supreme Court takes up a case that will determine whether or not gender and sexual identity are genuine protected classes under current federal law, politicians and activists on the left are already trying to add another marginalized minority to the ever-growing Wheel of Identity. Not only can you count on Democrats if you’re gay, transgender, if you’re an illegal immigrant, or if you’re a poor black woman who needs her food stamps, the party is ready to embrace and pander to you if you have chosen “felon” as your identity in this life. How wonderful! Finally – finally – someone is thinking of the criminals.

Take it from Bernie Sanders, who according to the polls is the only man not named Joe Biden who has a chance of winning the 2020 Democratic nomination. At a campaign rally in Fort Worth, Texas this week, Sanders was on a roll. Not only is Crazy Bernie rallying the 99% on a crusade against all the evil millionaires and billionaires in this country (other than himself), he’s also trying to open a new frontier in American civil liberties. Namely, he wants convicted felons to be able to vote.

Now, you may say, well, that makes a certain amount of sense. After all, if they’ve done their time and they’ve paid their restitution, why shouldn’t they get back the right to have their voices heard on election day. But oh no, you misunderstand. Sanders isn’t fighting for felons to get their voting rights back after they’ve served their sentences – he’s fighting for them to be able to cast a vote…FROM PRISON.

“If you commit a terrible crime, you’re going to pay the price,” Sanders said. “That does not mean that your right to participate in our democracy is taken away from you.”

Last week, Sanders made the extraordinary claim that even a felon as despicable as Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be able to vote from his prison cell.

He addressed the blowback he got from that insane statement with the Fort Worth audience.

“I was roundly criticized for this, but you know what? Once you begin taking away somebody’s right to vote you’re moving down a slipper slope,” he argued.

Yeah, what’s next? Taking away their liberty? Putting them behind bars? It never ends with these evil Republicans!

Sanders then made his big elevator pitch, comparing the civil rights of murderers, thieves, and terrorists with those of the minorities of yesteryear.

“You’ve committed a crime, you can’t vote. You’re poor, you can’t vote. Remember a hundred years ago women in America didn’t have the right to vote,” Sanders said. “Remember 70 years ago our African American brothers and sisters had to put their lives on the line to get the right to vote. Remember the poll taxes all across this country denying poor people the right to vote. And what we are seeing now and make no mistake about it: this is what Trump is about, and this is what Republican cowardly governors all over America are about.”

Yep, that’s what the monstrous Republican Party is all about – suppressing the felon vote.

If this lunatic wins the nomination, Trump may not even have to bother campaigning.
