The Usual RINOs Join Democrats in Condemning Trump’s Ukraine Call

The media is making a big deal out of the Washington Republicans who are joining Democrats in condemning President Trump’s phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but for anyone who pays half-attention to politics, it is hardly surprising to read the list of GOP critics. They are, after all, the same RINOs who always come out of the woodwork to signal to the media and their friends across the aisle that they are the “good” Republicans.

People like the execrable Susan Collins of Maine, who went out of her way on Saturday to tell the Bangor Daily News that she was simply outraged by Trump’s supposedly impeachable behavior. After Trump, clearly provoking the media, suggested that China should begin investigating the Bidens, Collins couldn’t hold her tongue.

“I thought the president made a big mistake by asking China to get involved in investigating a political opponent,” Collins told the paper. “It’s completely inappropriate.”

Oh dear, Trump did something “inappropriate?” How novel.

And then of course there was this statement from the only man more in love with his own saintliness than James Comey: “When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated. By all appearances, the President’s brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling,” wrote Utah Sen. Mitt Romney.

Oh, and let us not forget this piece of, er, work, Jeff Flake: “My fellow Republicans, it is time to risk your careers in favor of your principles. You can go elsewhere for a job. But you cannot go elsewhere for a soul.”

Pearl-clutching intensifies!

And we won’t even get into the crowd of imbeciles that include Nicolle Wallace, Michael Steele, Bill Kristol, Ana Navarro, and Bret Stephens, because we’re not even sure most of these people identify as conservatives anymore, much less Republicans. Somehow, for these masters of principle, Donald Trump was not only enough to turn them away from the GOP but from everything they’ve ever believed in. Simply amazing.

Anyway, give us a shout when a real Republican finds something other than a Democrat-controlled-and-conceived fantasy in this scandal. We don’t imagine it’s going to happen, though, because that’s exactly what this is. In the meantime, don’t be surprised to hear from Lisa Murkowski, Meghan McCain, and the rest of the usual concern trolls. They never seem to miss a chance.
