“There’s No Crime. There’s No Nothing.”: Trump Mocks Impeachment in Florida

At a Turning Point USA event in West Palm Beach on Saturday, President Trump went off on House Democrats and the ridiculous impeachment vote that took place on Wednesday. Seemingly in fine spirits as he addressed the crowd, Trump mocked Nancy Pelosi and her House cabal for stretching the terms of impeachment beyond any reasonable constitutional definition.

“They had nothing,” Trump said. “There’s no crime. There’s no nothing. How do you impeach? You had no crime. Even their people said there was no crime. In fact, there’s no impeachment. Their own lawyer said there’s no impeachment. What are we doing here?”

Trump was referencing Noah Feldman, one of the lawyers who testified in front of the House Judiciary Committee in the Democrats’ last-ditch effort to make their impeachment adhere to some semblance of legal logic. But while Feldman was gung-ho about impeachment on Capitol Hill, he was less excited about Pelosi’s decision to withhold the articles from the Senate. In a Bloomberg op-ed, he argued that if that delay were to go on indefinitely, President Trump could make a coherent case that he wasn’t actually impeached at all.

It was to Pelosi herself that Trump next turned.

“The world is watching,” Trump said. “Crazy Nancy. She’s crazy. So now she says she has no case. She has no case, so let’s not submit it. That’s good, right? That’s good, but you know what? So unfair. It’s so unfair. She has no case.”

Trump went on to accuse the Democratic Party of taking anti-democratic steps to gain political power.

“When all else fails, they pursue an illegal, unconstitutional and hyperpartisan impeachment,” he said. “They go with the impeachment thing. Some of these extremists may call themselves Democrats, but they really don’t believe in democracy. They can’t. They can’t believe in democracy.

“Generations of patriots before us did not work, fight and sacrifice so that we could surrender our country to a raging, left-wing mob,” he continued. “And that’s what’s happening. While they want to punish America, we will fight to preserve America. Together we will stand up to socialists, we will defend our nation — the greatest and most glorious republic in the history of this world.”

History is the key word there. That’s what we’re fighting against: The left’s egregious effort to turn this country into a haven for social justice grievances, a nation that punishes success and rewards failure, a government that exercises near-total control over the lives and fortunes of its subjects. The election of Donald Trump was the ultimate rejection of that future and the loudest statement possible from a population that LOVES this country’s history, loves what America symbolizes to the world, and wants desperately to preserve this nation for generations to come.

If Democrats hadn’t impeached Trump on the issue of Ukraine, they would have used one of 1,000 other pretenses. They know what 2020 has in store for them. This is their attempt to avoid that fate by any means necessary.
