Top Dem Storms Out of Cruz Hearing, Refuses to Condemn Antifa

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) is one of the most radical Democrats in the upper chamber, and she doesn’t miss an opportunity to demonstrate to the country how committed to the progressive cause she is. Hirono, who infamously told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer back in January that Trump “wasn’t acquitted” in his impeachment trial – basically because she didn’t like the outcome – made a fool of herself on Tuesday when she refused to condemn Antifa’s treacherous violence in American cities around the country.

The setting was a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, presided over by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). The point: To initiate an investigation into the radical leftist forces – including Antifa and Black Lives Matter – who are turning peaceful protests into an excuse to loot, burn, destroy, and attack police officers in the name of racial justice. At one point in the hearing, Cruz accused Democrats of being blind to this violence and even sticking up for the rioters on more than one occasion.

Once Cruz was finished, Hirono jumped in.

“Sometimes I don’t think you listen,” she said. “So, how many times have I had to say that we all should be denouncing violent extremists of every stripe?”

“Does that include Antifa?” asked Cruz.

“I have the time,” Hirono said. “I hope this is the end of this hearing, Mr. Chairman, and that we don’t have to listen to any more of your rhetorical speeches. Thank you very much. I’m leaving.”

As Hirono made to leave the chamber without Cruz’s dismissal, the Texas Republican taunted her.

“Well, I appreciate the – as always – kind of uplifting words of Senator Hirono,” he said. “and I would also note that throughout her remarks she still did not say a negative word about Antifa nor has any Democrat here.”

On her way out the door, Cruz gave her one more chance. “You’re welcome to say something negative about Antifa right now.”

She declined.

“I think I’ve covered the subject quite well,” she said in a snit.

“Okay, she declined to speak, so that is the position of the Democratic Party,” Cruz confirmed.

It has really been extraordinary to not only see Democrats take a position of hostility against the police and federal agents trying to keep our streets safe but refuse to issue even the slightest condemnation against those who have waged near-terrorist violence against our cities. Whether this is a sign of their cowardice or a symbol of how far to the left they’ve drifted, it is a major warning for voters everywhere: If you want the chaos in our streets to worsen, go ahead and elect a Democrat to lead our country in November.
