(FixThisNation.com) – On Sunday, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) revealed that he was doubtful about whether former President Donald Trump would indeed choose to skip the GOP primary debates, following Trump’s recent suggestions that he was leading the polls by such a margin that he did not need to attend the debates.

Trump had previously talked about possibly skipping the debates both during his 2016 and 2020 presidential runs. Previously Trump had criticized everything from the networks that would host them, Fox and CNN, to the proposed moderators.

However, during his panelist appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Christie argued that Trump’s ego would not allow him to skip the debate. He added that as the person who helped prepare Trump for the debates in 2016 and 2020, Trump’s ego makes him believe that he is going to win every single debate.

Trump had previously taken to his social media platform, Truth Social in late April to question why he should attend the debate hosted by “hostile Networks” and Trump “hating anchors.” He added that he did not understand why he should subject himself to such abuse.

This year there are two planned Republican presidential debates. The first one is going to be held in Milwaukee in August, while the second one will be held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California at an undisclosed date.

On Sunday during the appearance, Christie avoided disclosing whether or not he would be joining the 2024 presidential race, despite the attempts from other panelists to have him reveal his intentions.
