(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Trump has further grown his lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who is widely considered his biggest challenger in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll.

The poll, which was exclusively shared with The Hill, found that 55 percent of Republican-identifying respondents said that they would support Trump in his 2024 GOP presidential campaign against all other Republican contenders. According to that same poll, DeSantis came in second place with 20 percent, while Vice President Pence came in third place with only 7 percent.

Other potential and announced GOP candidates, including former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) all had 5 percent or lower in the poll. Around 8 percent of respondents also claimed that they were unsure of which candidate they would support.

The Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll released last month also showed that around 50 percent of respondents claimed that they were going to support Trump, while only 24 percent had said that they would support DeSantis.

Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll stated that DeSantis is currently “going through a near-death moment, which is common for a challenger campaign” but it means that he needs to restrategize or he is going to lose his position, especially as Trump’s base is energized following the former President’s recent indictment.
