Trump Tells Truth About Baltimore, Gets Crucified as a Racist

On Friday, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) made a viral spectacle of himself, grilling Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan about the treatment of illegal immigrants at the border. After McAleenan insisted that our detention facilities were well-maintained and that the federal government was doing the best job possible given the circumstances, Cummings saw an opportunity to rip the DHS chief – and, by extension, the president – for creating the only real crisis that Democrats will recognize: The “inhumane” treatment of migrants.

“You feel like you’re doing a great job, right?” Cummings asked. “Is that what you’re saying?”

McAleenan insisted that his agency was doing its “level best” with the resources provided.

“What does that mean?” Cummings asked. “What does that mean when a child is sitting in their own feces, can’t take a shower? Come on, man. What’s that about? None of us would have our children in that position.”

Well, you know, that’s true. And if we knew those were the circumstances we would likely face if we traveled to another country with a fraudulent claim of asylum, we probably…wouldn’t go there. But that’s just us.

But Cummings was determined to score points at the expense of logic and reason, and from the way liberal activists went gaga over his questions, he apparently succeeded.

But there was one man who was unimpressed with the congressman’s performance.

“Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous,” President Trump tweeted. “His district is considered the Worst in the USA.

“As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded,” Trump continued. “Cummings’ District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

The media covered this attack with the unbiased, level-headed restraint it has been known for in the Trump era. The Baltimore Sun said it was better to “have a few rats then to be one.”

“Mr. Trump,” the paper said in an editorial, “sees attacking African American members of Congress as good politics, as it both warms the cockles of the white supremacists who love him and causes so many of the thoughtful people who don’t to scream.”

CNN reporter Victor Blackwell also characterized Trump’s tweets as racist. “Donald Trump has tweeted more than 43,000 times. He’s insulted thousands of people — many different types of people,” Blackwell said. “But when he tweets about infestation, it’s about black and brown people.”

Of course, anyone being honest about the state of Baltimore – and West Baltimore, particularly – could not seriously accuse President Trump of exaggeration, much less racism. The city may be majority black, but it is hardly the Wakandan utopia that its defenders conjure. Its violent crime rate is many times the national average, and you don’t have to look very far to see dreadful footage of the widespread squalor and misery that defines many parts of the city. If it is racist to note that this is a city in grave danger, then the truth is racist.

Alas, the media and the Democrats have determined that any criticism Trump throws at a Democrat of color – be it Cummings, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Maxine Waters, Ilhan Omar, or anyone else – is racist by its very nature. They’re running headlong into 2020 with the same flag that failed to move the needle in 2016: TRUMP IS A TERRIBLE, VERY BAD RACIST!

We see no reason why it should be any more successful the second time around.
