(FixThisNation.com) – House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has been pushing for spending cuts as he is negotiating with the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling. At the same time, former President Donald Trump is urging Republicans to not cut the funding used for Social Security or Medicare and instead to direct their attention to other programs.

Trump has said that it would be reckless of Republicans to cut Medicare or Social Security in order to accommodate Biden’s “spending spree.” This was all said during a video that Trump posted on Truth Social. He added that there are many other areas in which the Republicans could cut. For example, they could cut down on immigration costs, foreign aid going to corrupt countries, left-wing gender products, or even the climate crisis. However, they should by no means be cut from the benefits that many seniors have been paying for and are now relying on for their lives.

He added that it was the Democrats who were currently wanting to destroy Social Security but that they would not allow them to do it.

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, however, noted that the Democratic party has no intention of bringing down Social Security and Medicare and that instead, they are just looking for ways to make the programs more stable.

Manchin added during a statement on Fox Business, that in regard to the debt ceiling, both parties will need to work together. He continued on to say that it is clear that they currently have a debt problem as there is $31.4 trillion of public debt.
