Trump Wanted to Dump Illegals in Sanctuary Cities. Why is That Wrong?

The Washington Post had an exclusive report on Friday that was obviously meant to be shocking for prudent, concerned Americans everywhere. According to the report (and not denied by White House officials), President Trump wanted to transport detained illegal immigrants at the border to various sanctuary cities where they could await their court dates.

“White House officials have tried to pressure U.S. immigration authorities to release detainees onto the streets of ‘sanctuary cities’ to retaliate against President Trump’s political adversaries, according to Department of Homeland Security officials and email messages reviewed by The Washington Post,” they reported. “Trump administration officials have proposed transporting detained immigrants to sanctuary cities at least twice in the past six months — once in November, as a migrant caravan approached the U.S. southern border, and again in February, amid a standoff with Democrats over funding for Trump’s border wall.”

Throughout the rest of the piece, the Post goes out of its way to explain to readers why this idea was such an abomination. We hear that Trump wanted to use San Francisco (Nancy Pelosi’s district) as one of the cities for relocation. We hear that “the attempt at political retribution raised alarm with ICE.” We are told that the ICE legal department rejected the White House’s plan as “inappropriate.” And, of course, we get a statement from Pelosi’s spokeswoman using some typically inflammatory language.

“The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated,” said the spokeswoman. “Using human beings – including little children – as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable.”

Okay. Our question is why haven’t San Francisco city leaders, spurred on by the House Speaker, volunteered to house these immigrants? Where are all the tough talkers from Chicago and New York City? These liberals find any excuse to get in front of a microphone and denounce every Trump administration immigration policy as inhumane…so where are they? Why aren’t they falling over themselves to provide these illegals and asylum-seekers with safe sanctuary. We’d think they would be more than happy to take them.

Look, we’re not stupid. Of course Trump wanted to use this as a political cudgel. So what? It doesn’t change the fact that these cities have, legislatively, put the rights of illegal immigrants ahead of their own citizens. And if that’s the case, why shouldn’t those cities be responsible for taking in the very illegals that they are demanding be left alone by Trump’s border squad?

It seems only fair, doesn’t it?
