(FixThisNation.com) – Former President Trump has called on Congress to defund the Department of Justice and the FBI following the increased legal pressures that he has been facing. Trump’s legal troubles have created a headache for Republican leaders on Capitol Hill and might end up hurting the Republicans stance of being tough on crime.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) has been one of the most vocal proponents of the fact that the Biden administration and Democrats across the nation have been weak on Crime. At the same time now, he has to handle Trump supporters who are calling for the House to cut funding in some of the nation’s top law enforcement agencies.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), a Trump ally, on Sunday endorsed the idea of reducing the funds available for both the Justice Department and the FBI.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who managed to win the Speaker’s gavel after 15 ballots with Jordan’s support, has been allowing the chairman the space to continue pushing against those who are trying to bring legal cases against Trump.

At the same time, McConnell has also criticized the Justice Department and FBI for “harassing” conservatives, including parents in local school board meetings, and has started embracing the idea of cutting federal law enforcement money despite the Republican’s calls that the crime rates across the nation are increasing.

Steven S. Smith, a professor of political science at Washington University in St. Louis, argued that “Trump is creating problems for Republicans everywhere” forcing them to switch their stance on law enforcement.
