(FixThisNation.com) – On Saturday morning, Trump took to Truth Social to state that he “will never call Ron DeSanctimonious ‘Meatball’ Ron, as the Fake News is insisting I will.”

The New York Times recently reported that Trump had used the insulting nickname privately. The name “Meatball Ron,” was meant to be an insult to both DeSantis’ Italian heritage and appearance.

This is not the first time that Trump has given DeSantis a nickname as part of his criticisms of the Florida governor. Previously Trump called DeSantis “Shutdown Ron” in reference to his early approach to the pandemic when he had closed off Florida.

In his Saturday post, Trump pointed out that in Florida the State and beaches had been closed for quite some time and that DeSantis had encouraged more testing in relation to the test. He further added that DeSantis’ “loyalty skills are really weak.”

While DeSantis has not joined the presidential race for 2024, he is widely believed to be Trump’s greatest opposition for the GOP primary, as he appears to either be even with Trump or even leading in some polls. The close competition for the GOP primary has led to Trump repeatedly attacking DeSantis over the past few months.

The latest of these attacks included Trump promoting a social media post alleging DeSantis was “grooming high school girls with alcohol” during his brief period as a teacher two decades ago.
