Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff has been under fire this week for comparing House Democrats to segregationists for their unwillingness to serve the Queen of the Bronx and bow before her mighty Twitter following. Perhaps that’s why the Washington Post blew the lid off Saikat Chakrabati’s true motives in a feature story this week: It turns out AOC’s man-with-the-plan admitted to others that the much-ballyhooed Green New Deal had less to do with solving global warming and more to do with introducing socialism to the United States.
Chakrabati reportedly made this admission to Sam Ricketts, the man in charge of climate change policy for Washington Gov. Jay Inslee.
The Post reports:
Chakrabarti had an unexpected disclosure. “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal,” he said, “is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all.” Ricketts greeted this startling notion with an attentive poker face. “Do you guys think of it as a climate thing?” Chakrabarti continued. “Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”
“Unexpected,” of course, is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, we can perhaps concede that it’s unexpected for a progressive Democrat to say the quiet part loud, but no one who seriously analyzed the Green New Deal could miss what that much-maligned legislation was really all about. While focused superficially on climate change, the $93 trillion proposal had Government Takeover written all over it.
Tom Donahue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, for instance, was not fooled for a minute.
“Climate change is real and deserves our attention,” Donahue said when the bill went public. “But not every policy to address it can be taken seriously. Take, for example, the Green New Deal – a sweeping proposal to ‘save our planet’ that reads more like a parody of the progressive agenda. No laughing matter, however, is the proposal’s ultimate objective: to give government unprecedented power over people’s lives and our entire economy.”
Donahue pointed out that wealth redistribution was at the center of Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal. “Aspects of the Green New Deal seem wildly out of place for an environmental resolution,” he noted. “Consider the promise of massive new entitlement programs that could only be achieved through a radical redistribution of wealth. Here, the proposal shows its true colors. This is not some run-of-the-mill progressive policy – it is a Trojan Horse for socialism.”
Ocasio-Cortez and her minions dismissed criticism of the Green New Deal as squawking bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry and the Republican Party. Now, fortunately, we have it from the horse’s mouth. This was the first (of many, no doubt) effort by the New York congresswoman to strip away the foundations of American liberty and replace it with the Communist clay of a failed ideology.
As easy as she is to laugh at, we should never forget what this woman really wants to do to this country.
