Twitter Officially Becomes Part of the #Resistance Against President Trump

For years now, Twitter and its liberal head, Jack Dorsey, has made it clear that it will not hesitate to selectively enforce its rules along cultural, ideological, and political lines. But on Tuesday, the site took that left-leaning stance to a new level, applying a new “fact-checking” label to one of President Donald Trump’s tweets.

“There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent,” Trump wrote. “Mailboxes will be robbed, ballots will be forged & even illegally printed out & fraudulently signed. The Governor of California is sending Ballots to millions of people, anyone living in the state, no matter who they are or how they got there, will get one. That will be followed up with professionals telling all of these people, many of whom have never even thought of voting before, how, and for whom, to vote. This will be a Rigged Election. No way!!”

For the first time in Twitter’s history, this tweet was quickly slapped with a label reading, “Get the facts about mail-in ballots.” If you click on that label, you’re taken to a paragraph that assures readers that “mail-in ballots are very rarely linked to voter fraud.” Essentially, the site is taking a stance against the president’s opinion/prediction, even though there is nothing in Trump’s tweet that is factually incorrect. You may not like what he wrote and you may not agree with it, but you cannot “disprove” it.

Trump was irate at the labeling, accusing the social media site of “interfering” with the election and “stifling free speech.”

“Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen. We saw what they attempted to do, and failed, in 2016. We can’t let a more sophisticated version of that happen again.”

Trump then doubled back to his original claim that mail-in voting will give Democrats a license to cheat the election.

“Just like we can’t let large scale Mail-In Ballots take root in our Country. It would be a free for all on cheating, forgery and the theft of Ballots,” he continued. “Whoever cheated the most would win. Likewise, Social Media. Clean up your act, NOW!!!!”

It is worth noting that the man in charge of policing Twitter’s rules is a guy named Yoel Roth, who has a lengthy history of posting anti-Trump messages of his own. In one memorable tweet, he referred to the president and his team as “ACTUAL NAZIS.” In another he said of Trump’s heartland supporters: “We fly over those states that voted for a racist tangerine for a reason.”

But yeah, let’s put this random idiot in charge of “fact-checking” the President of the United States. Great call, Twitter.
