Would We Elect Obama a Third Time?

Sunday’s 60 Minutes interview with President Obama showed us a defeated, haggard man unable to explain away his atrocious foreign policy failures. But for some reason, he still thinks the electorate loves him.

After interviewer Steve Kroft noted that Michelle Obama was happy that her husband couldn’t seek a third term, he asked, “Do you feel the same way?”

Obama said, “You know, it’s interesting. You go into your last year and I think it’s bittersweet. On the one hand, I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished and it makes me think, I’d love to do some more.

“But by the time I’m finished, I think it will be time for me to go. Because there’s a reason why we considered George Washington one of our greatest presidents. He set a precedent, saying that when you occupy this seat, it is an extraordinary privilege, but the way our democracy is designed, no one person is indispensable. And ultimately you are a citizen. And once you finish with your service, you go back to being a citizen. And I think having a fresh set of legs in this seat, I think having a fresh perspective, new personnel and new ideas and a new conversation with the American people about issues that may be different a year from now than they were when I started eight years ago, I think that’s all good for our democracy. I think it’s healthy.”

Kroft, who somehow retained his composure while Obama compared himself to George Washington, asked if he thought he could be elected if he ran again.

The president didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”

The scary thing is…he’s probably right. Not only about winning a hypothetical third term, either. Judging by the way this guy and his liberal cronies have played the American people, he could probably win an actual third term, 22nd Amendment be damned. It’s not like this would be the first time Obama chose to ignore that inconvenient document. And based on how quickly he answered the question, this is an idea he has spent some time thinking about.

Maybe that’s what he’s doing. He’s priming the pump…just floating the idea out there to see how it plays. You don’t like who the Democrats are putting out there this year? Ohh, maybe your old pal Barry will see fit to stick around. We’ve got this discredited law professor over here who says the 22nd Amendment doesn’t really say what it seems to say. Five Supreme Court Justices are on board, how about you guys?

Who’s going to stop him? Congress? Ha!

This country is addicted to Papa Government. Talk all you want about immigration, ISIS, and Planned Parenthood, it doesn’t mean squat next to those juicy entitlements. We want our welfare, dammit. We want our free college, free cell phones, free internet, free everything. If it means we’ve got to give up a little liberty in the process, who cares? If someone gives you an unlimited ATM card, are you going to gripe about some old musty parchment?

Truth is, it doesn’t even matter. If the Democrats win next November, it will be a third Obama term in spirit if not in body. And by the time we live through that, not even George Washington himself will be able to resurrect us from the ashes.
